Read about Willow
Born on a farm in the Netherlands, Willow has always had an outdoor existence, but was instantly seduced by the remote wilderness of Scotland when she first visited the Highlands aged 17. She stayed there and lives in a cottage with rare breed sheep, hens, cats, a collie and her bees. She is a qualified Expert Master Beekeeper. "Bushcraft is a continually honing of skills" and in 2012 she gained a Level 3 Mammal Tracking and Sign Interpretation Certificate at 97%. She's always drawn to the far North and has travelled to the Saami people in the Swedish Arctic and snowshoe-ed over frozen rivers in the snowy forests of Maine US, much in preference to expeditioning in the Sahara or Borneo. Willow has been a professional bushcraft and wilderness livingskills instructor for the past 10 years, specializing in Neolithic and traditional crafts. Her apprenticeship began with Woodlore, Ray Mears' company 11 years ago, where she worked her way up to instructor level and continued to work there for 5 years. For the past 4 years she's been freelancing for Woodsmoke in the Lakes, delivering and designing bespoke courses, such as woodcarving, Buckskin Tanning, making traditional winter clothing, such as mukluks, moccasins and mittens, in addition to all the standard woodland survival/bushcraft courses. In Scotland she's regularly asked to create specialists courses for professional outdoors' people, such as rangers and outdoor leaders as well as schools and other institutions. |
